Following weeks of whispered rumors about a royal babe on the way, Kensington Palace confirmed the world’s suspicions that, yes, indeed, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting.

WHEN: The baby is due to arrive in the Spring of 2019.

“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019,” Kensington Palace said in a social-media statement. “Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”

Meghan has had her 12-week-scan, and is probably out of her first trimester, but it is unclear when she became pregnant (though she safely avoided a royal scandal and was definitely not pregnant on her May wedding day).

BABY BUMP? When Meghan emerged from the airport in Australia Monday, the world observed that she was holding binders in front of her stomach. Eagle-eyed observers also detected a bump under her Givenchy dress at Princess Eugenie’s wedding.

NAMES? Top picks per the royal bookies are Prince James for a boy and Princess Victoria for a girl.

ROYAL POSITION: The current line to the throne: 1) Prince Charles, 2) Prince William, 3) Prince George, 4) Princess Charlotte, 5) Prince Louis, and 6) Prince Harry. This would make the royal tot seventh in line to the throne.

TIMING OF ANNOUNCEMENT: Meghan and Harry let the Palace know of her pregnancy on Friday, the day of Princess Eugenie’s wedding. Some on social media question the timing and opine that they should have let Eugenie “bask in the spotlight.”

PIPPA MIDDLETON: Meanwhile, in other royal baby news, Pippa Middleton (Duchess Kate’s sister) was seen smiling as she entered the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital. Lindo Wing is where Kate welcomed her three children. Pippa’s husband James Matthews entered as well, carrying what looked like large overnight bags.
